The Jacob Street School of Storytelling is an intensive three-day workshop for people whose work centers on the spoken story, whether it be ancient myth or the latest events in the world. We are especially interested in people with a deep experience of story – actors, playwrights, performers, speakers and educators – who are willing to take a good and hard look at what they are doing and how they can do it better.
Admission to the workshop is limited to twelve participants. Our intent is to assemble a group of people with diverse talents, skills and backgrounds that will work together to help each other develop their craft. This year’s workshop, offered for the first time, is a laboratory, exploring what is possible in the teaching and crafting of story.
The workshop structure includes whole group sessions with the teachers, one-on-one coaching and work in smaller groups. Participants will also have the chance to work with one another and receive feedback from their peers.
The September 2019 workshop has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. If you’re interested in hearing about the rescheduled-workshop, or other workshop and coaching please e-mail us at JacobStSchool@gmail.com
The workshops will take place in Seekonk, Massachusetts, fifteen minutes from downtown Providence, Rhode Island, at the home of Bill Harley. A performance barn with breakout space is on the property, with other areas available close-by.
The cost for the weekend is $350 – excluding room, breakfast and evening meals. A limited amount of scholarship money is available for qualified applicants who are in need.
Lunch will be provided on all days, and a dinner Saturday night. The Providence area is home to an unbelievable assortment of restaurants, from fancy to funky and a good number of cultural events and attractions. Debbie Block, Bill’s wife and manager is the cook for our meals together, and that’s a very good thing. Accommodations made for dietary concerns – to a point!
We don’t have room accommodations on the property. Effort will be made to arrange home-stays close-by for interested participants. There are many hotels and bed and breakfasts nearby. Click here to download list.
